We are now halfway through National Youth Week (31 March–9 April) and I'm proud to say that this year's list of activities in Fairfield City is bigger than ever before - and with good reason.
Youth Week is a huge opportunity for Council to connect with young people, provide great entertainment and education, confidence and skills opportunities that will benefit our City's future leaders.
In line with this year's theme for Youth Week, "Get Involved, Be Heard, Make a Difference", I'm proud to see Council's Youth Advisory Committee has been steering the multi-event program, having a say in the planning and even hosting its own event.
From the opening event on 31 March, Friday Night Live, through to Council's flagship Youth Week event Bring It On! Festival, our City's younger community members have been working alongside Council to provide the best entertainment and learning opportunities during a week that celebrates youth culture at its core.
Upcoming events include a henna body art workshop, youth art competition and exhibition, live music event at Bonnyrigg Youth Centre, bubble soccer, a Super Smash Bros tournament and our Youth Week closing event, Dream Big, which encompasses basketball and volleyball comps, live DJ, food and prizes.
For an outing the entire family can enjoy, I encourage everyone to head to Bring It On! Festival this Sunday (9 April) from 10.30am-7.30pm at Fairfield Showground.
There's free entry, free parking and free shuttle buses all day from Cabramatta, Canley Vale and Fairfield stations.
Bring It On! Festival entertainment includes performances from big acts In Stereo, Vlado Saric, The Fisher Boys, Dylan Rass, Sisters Doll, Yours Truly, Jordan Dibou and Olina Loau, among others, while Mashd N Kutcher will lead the Dance Party.
Festival-goers will enjoy amazing cultural performances, trampolines, youth services, a race car simulator or can get involved in sports, yard games or skating. There's even more to do, and giveaways galore.
I wish everyone a Happy Youth Week and hope you enjoy Bring It On! Festival this Sunday.
