Transforming the Showground

Attracting movie premieres to Western Sydney
Picture this: sitting under the night sky with family and friends watching a movie premiere in Fairfield City.
On Tuesday night, Council endorsed my proposal to begin work on designing a Master Plan to transform the Showground into a Centre of Excellence, which will attract major sporting and cultural events such as Easter Shows to our City.
I have asked that the design be flexible to allow the events arena to be transformed into an open-air movie theatre, which may attract premieres to Western Sydney.
I want to give the Showground back to the people of Fairfield City. The Showground should be a family friendly place, where people can come together. It should be the City's showpiece and something we can all be proud of.
The design will consider including a sporting stadium, synthetic football pitches, festival arena, including the ability to transform into an open-air movie theatre, expanded community gardens, bike tracks and walking paths.
I also want to keep the things we love about the Showground such as the Western Sydney Cycle Network and the markets, which attracts 600,000 visitors each year.
For the first time, the Showground will be the centre piece of the City and will be opened up to the people of Fairfield City.
Thanks for Clean Up efforts
I'd like to thank residents, schools and businesses for getting involved in Clean Up Australia Day events over the past week.
Keeping our streets, waterways and open spaces clean is everyone's responsibility and I applaud those that put their hand up to help keep our City looking great.
Let's all do our bit all year round and take our litter with us or put it in a bin.
