See you at Culinary Carnivale

I've had a main goal since becoming Mayor of making our City a great place for families.

This is reflected in projects such as our new Fairfield Adventure Park, the planned water park at Prairiewood Leisure centre, and our fantastic Youth and Community Centre, which I had great pleasure in opening last Friday.

Apart from these family facilities, Council also provides some excellent family friendly festivals, such as Lunar New Year, Bring It On!, and the recently held Cabramatta Moon Festival.

In less than two weeks, on Saturday 24 October, Council will host for the fifth time the exciting Culinary Carnivale.

This festival, which is a part of Good Food Month, highlights our City's theme of cultural diversity and celebrates the cuisine and culture of our Spanish and Latin American families living in Fairfield City.

Culinary Carnivale is one of the stand-out events on Council's community calendar. A feature of this year's event will be an 8-metre long Asado parrilla (barbecue). Asado is a popular dish of Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Paraguay and generally goes hand in hand with chimichurri, a spicy, garlicky parsley sauce.

While adults will enjoy dishes such as the mouth-watering Asado, Spanish seafood paella and empanadas, children won't be left out because there'll be plenty of sweet treats such gelato, churros, South American sweets, and freshly squeezed sugar cane-sweetened juices.

A world-class entertainment line-up boasting Brazilian dancers and Mexican singers will complement the food delights – and this year you'll also be able to learn Latin dance. There will be dancers, singers, amusement rides, a jumping castle and our headline act, 2013 The X Factor contestant Jayden Rodrigues, all of which will ensure a fun-filled family event for all.

Culinary Carnivale celebrates its 5th anniversary in 2015, so I'll be cutting a special birthday cake to mark the occasion. So make a date to join me at this fantastic celebration from 11am to 4pm on Saturday 24 October in Spencer Street, Fairfield.
