Pave your way into history
Published on 16 July 2019
For the first time in a generation, we are opening up Fairfield Showground for the whole community to enjoy, and we are giving everyone the opportunity to recognise their family's history and connection with Fairfield by offering engraved pavers for sale.
The pavers can be engraved with your family or business name as a lasting memento for people who have called Fairfield City 'home', and they will be placed along the walking path at Deerbush Park.
We are hard at work transforming Fairfield Showground to open it up to the whole community for festivals, sporting events, as well as to provide playgrounds and walking tracks for active, healthy lifestyles. Just last week work began on the amenities building to service the sporting grounds and provide community space.
This project is creating a mini Centennial Park right in the heart of Fairfield City while at the same time returning the ownership of the Showground to the City's people. So it is only fitting that you get the chance to own a piece of the new Showground.
Ever since John Williams and his wife took up a land grant in 1792 and became the area's first European settlers, people have been coming here from all over the globe. Their names and histories form an important part of our City's story.
I hope that you will take this opportunity to recognise your families, yourselves or your businesses that have a special connection to Fairfield, because it is the people that are the most important and most special part of our City.
The pavers will cost $88.50 for a large paver and $55.50 for a small paver. The price covers the cost of purchasing, engraving and laying the pavers. The pavers will be laid in the path early next year. Follow Fairfield City Council on Facebook for further details on the pavers and the ongoing redevelopment of Fairfield Showground.
