New vision for health and wellbeing precinct

Last week I asked Councillors to start the journey to realise a vision to transform Cabravale Leisure Centre and surrounding land into a Health and Wellbeing Precinct that will meet the needs of the community including seniors, people living with disability and people recovering from health conditions.  
Fairfield City has one of the highest numbers of people living with disability in NSW. We have an ageing community and our residents have some of the poorest health in the State.
Council owns and manages three leisure centres, each one playing an important role for our community in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. 
The masterplan for Cabravale Leisure Centre would explore opportunities for rehabilitation services and other medical support. It could also provide facilities for National Disability Insurance Scheme recipients as well as options for short-term accommodation to help patients with their rehabilitation. 
With this proposal, Council has a unique opportunity to create something special for our City and the region. 
Fairfield Youth and Community Centre, the Adventure Park precinct, Aquatopia and the Showground redevelopment were visions which started many years ago and over time, are becoming unique facilities for our community.
Council will now start to investigate opportunities to transform Cabravale Leisure Centre into a specialised facility for seniors, those with a disability, those needing rehabilitation, and also for the whole community.
