2021 has certainly been a challenging year for Fairfield City that has shown us just how resilient we are as a community.

As your Mayor, I stand proud to say that we have grown stronger while facing the ongoing challenges of the pandemic.

Congratulations to the new and returning councillors, I look forward to working with them to represent our residents and continue to make Fairfield City a great place to live and work.

With the election now over, it’s time to get back to work delivering for our City.

Christmas is a special time of year when families come together and celebrate what is important to them. Council has helped spread the festive cheer by setting up Christmas lights at roundabouts to delight residents and evening commuters. The lights look great and we hope this has made your evening trip home a little more cheerful. Around the City you will also see our Christmas banners and decorations in our town and city centres.

Council also conducted the annual Light Up Christmas Facebook Competition, which rewards the best Christmas decorated houses across the City.

This year we had the best response to the competition so far. Thank you to everyone that entered and I look forward to seeing more submissions next year.

The celebrations will continue for residents on 31 December with Illuminate making a comeback to Fairfield Showground.

Come along and end the year with family-friendly entertainment, food, rides and a spectacular fireworks finale.

Tickets are available at www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/illuminate for just $3.

I am really looking forward to events being back up and running and seeing smiles on the faces of our residents.

After the year we have had, it is well deserved.

While this year has been one of the hardest ones yet, we have lots to look forward to in 2022 with exciting projects on the way that will ensure Fairfield City remains a wonderful place to live, work, play and raise a family.

I wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year.
