Light Up the Dawn this Anzac Day

Every year, on 25 April, we pause to remember one of Australia’s most important national days, Anzac Day. This year, while we will honour the day in isolation, we do so together in spirit.

As all public Anzac Day ceremonies have been cancelled due to COVID-19, the RSL of NSW is calling on all Australians to honour the service of our defence forces, past and present, in our own personal way.

We can all participate by standing at the end of our driveways or on our balconies at 6am to pay respects to our defence forces by lighting a candle, reciting the Ode and observing a minute’s silence.

25th of April marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. It has become a day to recognise all of our defence forces for their ongoing contribution to making Australia the great free nation we are today.

Today I am asking that we all come together in a symbolic gesture of solidarity that unites us all in the Anzac Spirit.

Anzac Day is an important day for us as Australians to be grateful for what we have. This is particularly important as we face one of our most challenging times in history. No matter where we celebrate or how we celebrate it, Anzac Day is etched in our history and is part of who we are.

The RSL has more information on how you can commemorate Anzac Day 2020, including a link to watch a service online. www.rslnsw.org.au/anzac-spirit.
