Enjoy free Australia Day events
Published on 18 January 2017
Fairfield City Council is hosting a number of free family friendly events on Australia Day for residents to enjoy.
Fairfield and Prairiewood Leisure Centres are opening their doors for a free pool party with a DJ between 10am and 3.30pm. Residents will have free access to all pools.
Fairfield Youth and Community Centre will be open and free as well, so everyone can take advantage of this great facility which includes a rock climb, trampolines, table tennis and basketball.
And of course nearby is our Adventure Park and newly opened obstacle course.
I encourage residents to come along to the free events and take the opportunity to celebrate life in Australia, celebrate our City's diversity and reflect on our achievements and what it means to be part of this great nation.
To cap off the day there will be a spectacular fireworks display at Canley Heights Town Centre at 9pm.
The evening before Australia Day we hold a ceremony to confer citizenship on residents who have chosen to become Australian citizens and announce the winners of the 2017 Australia Day awards at a ceremony at Council's administration building. This is our chance to honour local achievers and outstanding citizens in a number of categories including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Sports Achiever of the Year.
This Australia Day, please take the time to reflect on our national journey; reflect on our past, our present and take the time to acknowledge that we each have a role to play in making Australia even better for the future.
