Council stands against domestic violence

Domestic violence is a major issue in Australia. On average, one woman is killed every week in Australia by domestic violence. 

This is a horrifying statistic and should not be tolerated.

Council strongly opposes domestic and family violence and supports White Ribbon events which raise awareness of this important issue.

We are therefore pleased to support the White Ribbon Walk through Cabramatta on Friday 24 November, organised by Cabramatta Police. It will start at 9.30am in Cabravale Park and head towards Freedom Plaza.

Please join me and others as we walk through the Town Centre and build greater awareness. The Federal Member for Fowler Chris Hayes MP, Cabramatta Police Commander Wayne Murray and I will give speeches on the issue. A local student will also offer their perspective.

We can all do our bit to help raise awareness and prevent domestic violence in our society. Doing nothing is not an option.

If anyone is aware of domestic violence taking place I encourage you to stand up, speak out and talk to people wherever possible. If you know someone who is experiencing domestic violence then please encourage them to seek help.

Remember also that children hear and see violence. As a result they can experience emotional, psychological and social stress.
