Celebrating our grandparents
Published on 10 November 2016
Grandparents play a vital role in our families and our community.
I encourage all grandparents to come with their children and grandchildren to celebrate at Council's Grandparents Day event on Sunday 6 November.
Grandparents Day has become a special day for many local families and Council is proud to be again hosting a free event combined with Children's Week activities at Fairfield Park from 10am to 2pm.
Grandparents can enjoy free activities such as hand massages, dancing and gentle exercise. There are also free activities for the younger generations to enjoy such as face painting, fun science and craft activities and circus acts to name a few.
Although we recognise and benefit every day from the incredible contribution of grandparents, Grandparents Day is our chance to honour and focus on their irreplaceable role in families and the wider community. The skills, life experience and wisdom of our older residents are invaluable to the younger generations and our future.
They are the custodians of culture, language, family heritage, memories and provide love and care to their children and grandchildren.
Grandparents Day is also an opportunity for children and grandchildren to spend quality time with their grandparents to show their love and respect.
