Celebrating our City's seniors
Published on 17 October 2018
Our senior citizens play a vital role in our community. They have given a lot not only to their families but also to their community over a long period of time. It is important that we honour them in return.
I believe in the importance of a healthy community that celebrates achievements. That is why Council will be hosting a number of activities for you over the next month.
This builds on the services that we provide to seniors, such as free pool entry at our leisure centres at off-peak times. We are one of very few councils that provide this service. If you are aged 60 or over, you are included in this offer. Get in touch with the friendly staff at your nearby centre to find out more.
I invite seniors and their families to our free annual Grandparents Day celebration in honour of grandparents across our City. Grandparents Day will be held at St Johns Park Reserve on 28 October. There will be a free sausage sizzle, light refreshments, activities, exhibitions, live entertainment and much more to entertain and delight all ages. I look forward to seeing you there for a fun, family celebration that brings everyone together.
The Seniors’ Concert on 15 November is a fun day out for our older residents to enjoy music, dancing, entertainment, catching up with old friends and even making new ones. It is always a fun event and tickets sell quickly.
We do a lot to support our older residents, so I encourage you to grab your mum, dad, grandparents or your elderly neighbour and bring them along to one or more of our free events and activities.
