Celebrating Australia Day
Published on 26 January 2022
At this time each year we come together as a community to celebrate our City’s diversity and our life in Australia. I encourage you to take the time today, on Australia Day, to reflect on what it means to be part of this great nation.
Council had already begun marking this important day and you may have seen the Australia Day banners in place across our City.
Today Council is hosting a number of free family friendly events to celebrate our national day. This is an opportunity for families and communities to come together and celebrate the things we cherish and give thanks to be living in one of the best nations in the world.
Fairfield and Prairiewood leisure centres are opening their doors for a free pool party between 10am and 4pm. Come along and spend a free Australia Day with friends and family.
Fairfield Youth and Community Centre will have free entry to the trampolines, table tennis and basketball courts from 10am to 3pm and next to the centre is the Adventure Park and popular obstacle course, which are also free. Of course, Aquatopia Water Park – Fairfield City’s well known destination for affordable family fun will also be open.
Also today, Council will also be hosting the annual Fairfield City Australia Day Community Awards, recognising outstanding local citizens who have made significant contributions to our community, together with a Citizenship Ceremony. At the ceremony we welcome a number of new citizens who choose to call Australia their new home, building on our City’s wonderful multicultural heritage.
Australia Day is a great time to reflect on our national journey; how we became the nation we are today. It is also worthwhile to consider our path into the future so that we can continue to make our City an even better place for everyone.
That is what I celebrate and commit myself to on Australia Day, and I look forward to celebrating with you.
