Australia Day
Published on 24 January 2018
This Friday is Australia Day and I encourage residents to come along to Council's free family friendly events to celebrate our national day.
Fairfield and Prairiewood Leisure Centres will open their doors for a free pool party with a DJ between 10am and 4pm. Come along and spend an affordable Australia Day with friends and family.
Aquatopia will also be open with a discounted entry rate for families.
Fairfield Youth and Community Centre will be open and free so everyone can take advantage of this great facility which includes an indoor rock climbing wall, trampolines, table tennis and basketball courts. Next to the centre is our Adventure Park and the popular obstacle course.
To finish off the day in style, there will be a spectacular fireworks display at Canley Heights Town Centre at 9pm.
On Thursday evening (Australia Day Eve) Council will hold its formal ceremony to honour some outstanding local citizens who have made significant contributions to our community. This includes awards for Fairfield City's 2018 Citizen of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Sports Achiever of the Year.
At the ceremony we also welcome a number of new citizens who choose to call Australia their permanent new home.
This Australia Day I encourage everyone to celebrate life in Australia, celebrate our City's diversity, and reflect on what it means to be part of this great nation.
It is a great time to remember our national journey, how we became the nation we are today. It is also worthwhile to consider our path into the future so that we can continue to make our City an even better place for everyone.
