An exciting year ahead

This year will be an exciting one for our City.
In 2018 we are planning a year of achievement and investment in our community that will make Fairfield City an even better place to live and play.
The Western Sydney City Deal, in which Council has played an important role, will deliver a framework for improved infrastructure, roads, rail and more diverse housing choices.
Council is investing in infrastructure to ensure residents' needs are met. Smithfield Road will be subject to a major upgrade that will double the existing lanes, which will ease congestion and make travel safer. We will instal new playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment in a number of places across the City and put in many kilometres of new or upgraded kerb and guttering, footpaths and roads.
We continue to look forward. Probably our most exciting project is stage one of the redevelopment of the Showground into a Regional Multicultural and Sporting complex. Located in Fairfield City's geographical heart, the showground will be opened up for community use like never before in its 40-year history.
The Showground will be able to host cultural festivals, concerts, outdoor movies, musicals and huge fairs and outdoor conventions. It will put Fairfield City on the map and create a destination the rest of Sydney and elsewhere will envy.
Council will invest heavily this year so that our City continues to meet the needs and aspirations of residents. We will do this while maintaining a robust financial position and keeping rates low. I look forward to an exciting year ahead and beyond.
