Amazing year for Fairfield City

2018 has been an amazing year for Fairfield City, full of achievements that the entire city can be proud of.

For the first time since 1987, Council was named NSW's most progressive council in the City and Regional Councils category of the A R Bluett Memorial Awards.

This award is the pinnacle in local government awards and recognises the hard work and achievements by this Council over the past 12 months.

Our achievements through this year have been many. This year we broke ground at Fairfield Showground, beginning its transformation into a Regional Multicultural and Sporting Centre of Excellence. Turf is already being laid for the new festival and playing fields, ready for use next year.

Council continued to revolutionise our libraries, with the introduction of new ebook and movie streaming services, as well as the opening of the Studio 2166 audio and video recording space, lab.LX experimental media lab and The Workary professional development area at Whitlam Library.

Council began work on a new community park for the families of Villawood and Carramar. We also installed new playgrounds and fitness equipment in a number of places around the City, improved a number of our town centres and put in 5.6 kilometres of new or upgraded kerb and guttering, 9 kilometres of new or replacement footpaths and 7 kilometres of roads.

There is still much to be done and I look forward to working hard with residents to maintain our strong investment in infrastructure while keeping rates low.
