A

Acids (such as toilet bowl cleaners, cleaning vinegar, rust removers)	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Acrylic planes and sheets	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Adhesive labels and tapes	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Aerosol cans (completely empty)	Remove the lid and spray button before disposing of them all in the yellow recycling bin.
Aerosol cans (still full or partially full with a substance)	Keep it in the original container and take it to a Community Recycling Centre.
Air-pillows	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Alcohol solutions (such as isopropyl alcohol, methylated spirits)	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day. Remember to keep these chemicals away from direct sunlight, high heat and open flame sources.
Alkalis (such as ammonia, bleach, lime, borax, lye)	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Aluminium cans of any kind	Dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Aluminium foil sheets, foil trays and other similar items	If clean, scrunch it into a ball and dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin. If soiled with food, give it a quick rinse or wipe before scrunching it into a ball and disposing of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Aquatic plants	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Artifical flowers, grass, plants etc.	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Artifical turff (fake grass)	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Asbestos	Visit the Fairfield City Council Household Asbestos Removal Program website for licensed removal or the NSW Government Asbestos in the Home website to find a licensed contractor and more information. Remember incorrect disposal and illegal dumping of asbestos can result in fines and health implications. Be asbestos safe.
Ashes (from BBQs, bonfires or fires)	Allow the charcoal and ashes to cool before disposing them in the red general waste bin.
Automotive chemicals of any kind (such as antifreeze, break fluids, cleaners)	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.

B

Baking paper	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Baking trays and tins	If in great condition, give to charity. If not, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Balloons of any kind	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Bamboo leaves, stems and roots	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Banana trunks, leaves and stems	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Bandages and band-aids	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Bark from trees	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Bathroom appliances (such as hairdryers, straighteners, curlers, electric toothbrushes, shavers, etc.)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Batteries - Car batteries and other lead-acid batteries	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre. Can also be taken to a Community Recycling Centre or during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Batteries - E-bike and E-scooter batteries	Take to a Community Recycling Centre or a Waste Management Centre.
Batteries - Embedded in appliances (such as electric toothbrushes, Bluetooth speakers and headphones, electronic toys, or other rechargeable devices)	Take to a Community Recycling Centre participating in the *Embedded Batteries Trial* program. For more information about embedded batteries and which Community Recycling Centres have the program, visit EPA NSW.
Batteries - household and cell batteries	Take them to the Council’s Admin Centre, Libraries or Leisure Centres and dispose of them in designated bins. Can also be taken to a Community Recycling Centre or during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day. For more information on how to collect and store old batteries and for other disposal locations, visit NSW EPA or Planet Ark.
Batteries - Powerpacks and other portable charging devices	Take to Community Recycling Centre participating in the *Embedded Batteries Trial* program. For more information about embedded batteries and which Community Recycling Centres have the program, visit EPA NSW.
Batteries - power tool batteries	Take to a Community Recycling Centre.
BBQ briquettes, binchotan charcoal, lumpwood charcoal, hardwood charcoal and other BBQ charcoal-based fuels	Allow the charcoal and ashes to cool before disposing them in the red general waste bin.
Beans of any kind (cooked or uncooked)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Bed sheets, fittings and other manchester items	If in great condition, give to charity. Visit Planet Ark and type in your suburb to find locations and services that accept clothing donations near you. If not, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection or dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Beef bones, organs, skins, scraps	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Bikes and scooters	If in great condition, give to charity. If not, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Bin liners	Bin liners should only be used for your red general waste bin. Please do not line your yellow recycling bin or your green FOGO bin as it is considered a contaminant.
Black fungus (Wood-ear mushroom)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Blankets	If in great condition, give to charity. Visit Planet Ark and type in your suburb to find locations and services that accept clothing donations near you. If not, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection or dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Bones from meat and seafood (raw or cooked)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Books	If in great condition, give to charity. If not, take it to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Bottle caps (plastic and metal)	Give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Bricks	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Bread and pastries of any kind	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Broken glass	Carefully dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Bubble wrap	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Building materials	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Butter of any kind	Directly dispose of it in the green FOGO bin without the container.
Button mushrooms (white, Swiss brown, portobello)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.

C

Cactus of any kind	Small cacti can be disposed of in green FOGO bin. Large or heavy cacti can be taken to Fairfield City Council's Recycling Drop Off Centre.
Calico, hessian and muslin bags (including nut-milk bags and produce bags)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Candles, waxes and melts	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Canvas material and products	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin. If the material is too large, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Car parts (metal)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Waste Management Centre.
Car parts (plastics)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Waste Management Centre.
Carbon dioxide cylinders and tanks	Certain companies recycle their own carbon dioxide cylinders and tanks. Contact their waste management team to find out more information. Take to a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Card stock and other paperboard	Dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Cardboard and other corrugated fiberboards	Dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin. Excessive and oversized cardboard can be taken to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre.
Cardboard - waxed	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Cardboard - wet strength (such as frozen food cartons)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Carpet and rugs	Put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Cartons - liquid paperboard/fresh (such as juice cartons)	Give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Cartons - UHT/life-long (such as milk cartons)	Give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
CDs, DVDs, Cassette-tapes and video-tapes	If in great condition, give to charity. If not, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Cellophane	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Ceramic and porcelin crockery (eg. mugs, plates)	If in great condition, give to charity. If not, dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Ceramic tiles	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Cheeses and similar dairy products	Directly dispose of it in the green FOGO bin without the container or packaging.
Chewing gum and bubble gum	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Chicken bones, organs, skins, scraps	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Chlorine (liquids and powders)	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Christmas lights, fairy lights and other similar items	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.

Christmas tree (living plant)	Can be chopped up into small pieces and be dispose of in the green FOGO bin.

Citrus skins, zests, seeds	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin. Remember to remove any sticker labels before adding them to the green FOGO bin. Dispose of sticker labels in the red waste bin.
Clay	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Cling wraps and plastic films	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Clothes (old and unwanted)	If in great condition, give to charity. Visit Planet Ark for locations and services that accept clothing donations near you. If not, dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Coat hangers of any kind	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Coffee filter paper and the like	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Coffee grounds and pucks (without packaging or contained in a pod)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Coffee pods and coffee capsules	Visit Planet Ark for services that can recycle coffee pods and coffee capsules. If not, dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Compostable liners with the AS4736 logo (used for lining the caddy)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin. Make sure everything within the AS4736 is green FOGO bin-friendly. If you have a composting system available, such as a compost bin or worm farm, AS4736 bags can safely be added to your composting system. Just remember everything within the AS4736 liner should also be compost-friendly before adding it to your composting system.
Compostable liners with the AS5810 logo	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin. If you have a composting system available, such as a compost bin or worm farm, AS5810 bags can be added to your composting system. Just remember everything within the AS5810 bag should also be compost-friendly before adding it to your composting system.
Compostable liners without any Australian certified logos	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Construction materials	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Containers holding food	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Cooking fats (such as ghee and lard)	Allow the cooking fat to cool and solidify before disposing it directly into the green FOGO bin.
Cooking oils (such as olive oil, peanut oil, vegetable oil etc.)	Store cooking oils in a large plastic bottle and seal tightly with the lid. Dispose of the bottle into the red general waste bin or take to a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Cooking pots and pans	If in great condition, give to charity. If not, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Corks or cork material of any kind	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Cosmetics	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Cosmetic tubes (such as hand cream tubes, sunscreen tubes, toothpaste tubes)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Cotton products (balls, pads, q-tips, etc.)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Crab shells, organs, meats and bodies	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Crayfish shells, organs, meats and heads	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Crockery and cutlery (certified compostable or biodegradable)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Crockery and cutlery (made of any metals)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Crockery and cutlery (wood or compressed pulp)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Curries of any kind	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Curtains	Put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.

D

Dairy milks and creams	Small amounts of milk can be watered down and added to the garden. Milk and creams can also be disposed of in the green FOGO bin. Large amounts can be contained in a container, sealed, and disposed of in the red general waste bin.
Deceased animals and wildlife	Contact Fairfield City Council to organise a service to collect and dispose of the animal. Remember, never touch deceased wildlife, and allow professionals to examine and handle the situation.
Deceased pets	Contact Fairfield City Council to organise a service to collect your pet.
Demolition materials	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Dental items (such as dental floss, dental picks and toothbrushes)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Desktop and laptop computers including associating parts and peripherals	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Detergents and soaps	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Disposable gloves and rubber gloves	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Disposable razer cartridges (handle and cartridge)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Drink bladders	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Drinking straws of any kind	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Duck bones, organs, skins, scraps	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.

E-cigarettes & Vapes (including reusable and single-use vapes)	Take to a Community Recycling Centre or a Waste Management Centre.

Egg cartons	Dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.

Electrical toys	Check to see any if batteries are still within the toy. If any are found, remove batteries and dispose of them accordingly. If in great condition, give to charity. If not, take it to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Electronic components and e-waste	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Enoki mushrooms	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Expired foods	Directly dispose of it in the green FOGO bin without the container.
Expired or unwanted medicines	Take to a chemist participating in the "Return Unwanted Medicines" project.

Fabrics and textiles (scraps, ripped material, torn-rugs)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Face masks and surgical masks	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Feathers (freshly plucked from poultry)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Fermented and pickled foods (such as kimchi)	Directly dispose of it in the green FOGO bin without the container.
Fire extingushers (expired or used)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Firewood	Chop up the firewood into small pieces (10 cm in length and diameter) and dispose of them in a green FOGO bin. If possible, donate to someone with a fireplace.
Fish bones, organs, skin, scales and scraps	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Flooring tiles	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Florist foam	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Flowers (freshly cut or dead)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Fluorescent tubes and globes including compact fluoros (CFLs)	Take to a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Foam packaging (such as packaging nuts or moulded foam)	Bag and dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Foiled wrapping paper	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Food wrappers (plastic)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Fridges and freezers	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or put out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Frosted glass	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Fruits of any kind (peels, cores, seeds, leaves, scraps)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Furniture (such as couches, chairs, bedframes (dismantled), cabinets, drawers, tables, desks, etc.)	If in great condition, visit Planet Ark for more information about donating furniture near you, buy-back services, and how to resell furniture items online. If not, put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.

G

Gaming consoles	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Garden clippings, cuttings and pruning	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Gas Cylinders and gas canisters (fuel gases)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Community Recycling Centre.
Glass bottles (such as beer, wine, sodas, etc.)	Separate the cap and bottle, give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of the glass bottle in the yellow recycling bin. Check to see if the lid is recyclable and dispose of it accordingly.
Glass jars (such as jams, sauces, etc.)	Separate the lid and bottle, give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of the glass jar in the yellow recycling bin. Check to see if the lid is recyclable and dispose of it accordingly.
Glass planes and sheets	Small glass planes and sheets can be carefully disposed of in the red general waste bin. Large glass planes and sheets can be taken to a Waste Management Centre.
Glassware (such as glass cups, vases, bowls)	Carefully dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Grains of any kind	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Grass clippings	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Grease trap waste	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Gyprock/Plasterboard	Take to a Waste Management Centre.

Haberdashery	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Hair cuttings	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Halogen light globes	Take to a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Headphones and earphones (wired and bluetooth)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Helium cylinders and chargers	Certain companies recycle their own carbon dioxide cylinders and tanks. Contact their waste management team to find out more information. Take to a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Herbicides	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Herbs of any kind (leaves, stems, scraps)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Household chemicals	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Household dust and lint	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Household garbage	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.

Ice-cream boxes (cardboard)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Ice-cream boxes (plastic)	Give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Incandescent light bulbs	Wrap it in wrapping paper or in a plastic bag and dispose of it in the red general waste bin. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Ink cartriges	Take to a Community Recycling Centre or visit the Planet Ark website and type in your suburb to find a drop-off location near you.
Irons and steamers	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.

Junk mail	Dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.

K

Kefir	Directly dispose of it in the green FOGO bin without the container.
Kerosene and related substances	Keep it in the original container and take it to the next Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Kitchen appliances (such as blenders, juicers, sandwichpressers, toasters, kettles, etc.)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre, a Community Recycling Centre, or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Pet litter, pet-poo bags and other materials containing or contaminated with pet poo	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.

Lamb bones, organs, skins, scraps	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Laminated paper	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Large metal items (such as sinks, screens and basins)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Waste Management Centre. Certain Scrap Metal Recycling Centres will provide payment for the scrap metal brought to them, providing payment by weight and type of metal.
Large porcelain items (such as toilets and sinks)	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Leather products such as bags, shoes and clothes	If in great condition, give to charity. Visit Planet Ark for locations and services that accept clothing donations near you. If not, dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Leaves	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
LED bulbs	Wrap it in wrapping paper or in a plastic bag and dispose of it in the red general waste bin. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Leftover cooked food	Directly dispose of it in the green FOGO bin without the container.
Lentils of any kind (cooked or uncooked)	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Lids (metal lids including ring-pull lids)	Give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Lids (plastic small - such as bottle caps)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Lids (plastic large - such as jar lids)	Give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Linoleum flooring	Take to a Waste Management Centre.
Lobster shells, organs and heads	Dispose of it in the green FOGO bin.
Logs (larger than 10 cm in diameter)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.

M

Magnets	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Magazines	Dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.
Manure	Small amounts of manure can be disposed of in the red general waste bin. Large amounts of manure must be taken to a Waste Management Centre.
Matchboxes	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Mattresses and mattress toppers	Put it out for your Kerbside Clean-up collection.
Meat trays	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Mercury-containing items (such as thermometers and lamps)	Take to a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day.
Medical needles, needle-clippers, syringes, and lancets	If possible, dispose of and collect these medical sharps in a sharps bin or metal can. Take them to a chemist participating in the "Return Unwanted Medicines" project, public hospitals, or Community Health Centres for disposal. Certain public toilets may contain a sharps bin where medical sharps can be disposed of.
Medicine blister packs and Webster-pak® (empty)	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Memory-storage drives (such as hard drives, USB flash drives)	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Community Recycling Centre. Can also be taken during Household E-Waste and Chemical Clean-Out day. Remember to delete all data saved on the drive before disposing of for security reasons.
Mesh produce bags	Dispose of it in the red general waste bin.
Metal pipes	Take to Fairfield City Council’s Recycling Drop Off Centre or a Waste Management Centre. Certain Scrap Metal Recycling Centres will provide payment for the scrap metal brought to them, providing payment by weight and type of metal.
Metal tins or cans	Give a quick rinse and wipe, then dispose of it in the yellow recycling bin.

Top tips to cut your waste

REFUSE to buy things that you don’t really need
REDUCE consumption where possible, especially of single-use items
REUSE existing items rather than purchasing new. Consider donating unwanted items to charity
RECYCLE right by making sure bottles, jars and containers are empty and rinsed. Buy recycles products where possible
REPAIR items instead of throwing them out when they are broken.
