Busking activities are a form of public entertainment, involving the performance of artistic undertakings or musical acts with the intention of receiving a donation from members of the public.
Fairfield City Council have developed a Busking Policy to promote artistic performances and activate the town centres, whilst regulating busking activities to mitigate impacts on the public domain and commercial operations in the centres. Busking activities are permitted in site specific locations for suitable activities that are generally situated in proximity to high commercial activity.
The Busking Policy sets out guidelines to regulate busking activities in accordance with the requirements of Section 68 of the Local Government (LG) Act 1993 which allows Council to permit activities on community land that “Direct or procure a theatrical, musical or other entertainment for the public…..for fee or reward, play a musical instrument or sing”. Busking activities are issued by Council consent with conditions to comply with.
