Work begins on new all-abilities playground

Construction has commenced on an exciting new all-abilities playground at Deerbush Park, next to Fairfield Showground.

The $6.5 million playground is being jointly funded by Fairfield City Council, and the Federal and State governments:

  • Fairfield City Council ($4.2 million);
  • Western Sydney City Deal Liveability Fund ($1.71 million);
  • The NSW Office of Responsible Gambling’s ClubGrants program ($293,596);
  • NSW Planning Industry & Environment – Everyone Can Play program ($200,000).

The park will include a Liberty Swing, wheelchair-accessible carousel, ground-level trampoline, and an accessible public toilet facility with a change table that can be raised and lowered.

A ground-level ropes course, flying fox, riding track, climbing net fort with slide, accessible riverbed crossing, water pump, sand digger, picnic tables and bench seating, voice tubes, trees and landscaping will also be included.

Adults will also be able to enjoy the park, with new outdoor gym equipment being installed.

A special inclusion will be a water play space with squirters and dumping buckets – the first for a public playground in Fairfield City.

Mayor Carbone said Deerbush Park furthers Fairfield City Council’s commitment to being an inclusive, family-centred City.

“The transformation of Fairfield Showground into a Regional Multicultural and Sporting Centre of Excellence is returning this area to the people of Fairfield City,” Mayor Carbone said.

“The redevelopment of Deerbush Park ensures the showground – the geographic and cultural heart of our City – has something for everyone to enjoy, no matter their ability.

“We are creating spaces in this City for families and friends to come together to enjoy outdoor activities and be healthy.

“This new park will join Council’s incredible line-up of local parks, and will rank among the likes of Fairfield Adventure Park, Bonnyrigg Town Centre Park, Emerson Park and Cabra Vale Memorial Park as one of our City’s premier green spaces.

“I’m especially excited for the water play space, which will offer families another option to stay cool during our City’s warmer months.

“When it opens later this year, Deerbush Park will strengthen this City’s reputation as a great place to live, work and raise a family.”

The personalised pavers purchased by the community last year will be laid as part of the Deerbush Park development.
