Fairfield City Museum & Gallery’s (FCMG) Stein Gallery will set the stage for 2020/21 Artist in Residence Niramsin Yakou’s Fairiety Show, opening on Saturday 12 March at 10am.
Bringing together Niramsin’s practice as a singer, producer and choreographer; the exhibition presents a new body of work complete with five original songs and a highly captivating video production, capturing the culture and diversity of Fairfield City.
Niramsin is a talented local singer/songwriter and producer, well known in the Australian independent music scene for producing music that brings awareness to his community.
The inspiration for this project was drawn from Fairfield City’s diverse cultural fabric, and has culminated in a compelling production representing our City’s voice and resilience in the face of a global pandemic.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said the exhibition is a clever representation of the cultural and creative life of Fairfield City.
“Council is proud to support local talent and their creative pursuits through the Artist in Residence program during such a critical time for the arts sector, and to inspire confidence in our next generation of artists coming up in Fairfield City,” Mayor Carbone said.
Niramsin is a western Sydney-based performance artist who has achieved recognition for his innovative productions focussing on humanitarian awareness and cultural inclusion.
He said the theme of his exhibition is a celebration of the cultural diversity and connectivity in Fairfield City.
“The Fairiety Show features a cross-cultural collection of art, music and performances inspired by my collaboration with Aboriginal, African, Asian, Assyrian, Australian, Bolivian, European and Spanish communities,” Yakou said.
“The gallery space will be transformed into a large-scale, immersive projection of an alternate world celebrating the harmonious exchange between these cultures.
“Visitors will find themselves interacting with art in ways they never imagined in this first of its kind multisensory experience for FCMG.
“I invite you to come along and experience Fairfield City like you never have before.”
