Fairfield City Leisure Centres’ gyms and fitness classes will reopen on Monday, 15 June following the relaxing of NSW Government restrictions.
Due to ongoing NSW Government restrictions, fitness classes will be restricted to 10 participants. Showers will not be available and all gym visitors must bring a towel to wipe down the equipment after use.
We ask gym patrons who are unwell to stay away as a precaution until they are well again.
Unfortunately we are not at a stage when we can open the leisure centre pools given that only 1 swimmer per lane is allowed and that change rooms and bathrooms are not permitted to be opened. However, we look forward to further relaxing of restrictions to allow us to open the pools in the future, and in the meantime are pleased to be able to open other parts of the leisure centres for community use.
Fairfield City Council operates gyms at its Prairiewood, Fairfield and Cabravale leisure centres.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said he was pleased that Council is in a position to begin rolling back restrictions at its leisure centres.
“This is an exciting step towards things returning to normal, and is only possible because of the hard work of all residents in observing important social distancing and hygiene rules,” Mayor Carbone said.
“It is important that we don’t become complacent. Please continue to follow the rules around social distancing and hygiene while visiting our gyms to ensure that everyone stays safe and healthy.
“I thank everyone for their patience while our centres were closed due to the pandemic. The health and wellbeing of our residents and staff has always been our top priority. I look forward to making further announcements soon about the reopening of other Council services.”
Council will continue to update the community on changes to its services as and when changes occur on social media and its website. For a full list of changes, visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/coronavirus.
