THE POSITION:

Fairfield City Council is expanding its open space areas and is seeking experienced Horticulturist to join our Parks and Open Space Team in a Permanent Full-Time capacity. We are looking for highly motivated, physically fit individuals with a strong work ethic to help maintain and enhance our Parks and Open Space areas. As a Parks Trades Gardener, you will use your horticultural expertise to ensure the highest standards in the presentation and maintenance of Council’s parks, gardens, and open spaces. Your duties will include:

  • Pruning, mulching, planting, and weed management, carried out efficiently and proactively.
  • Ensuring all work is completed with a focus on safety, both for yourself and your team.
  • Providing guidance and leadership in horticultural practices to your team members.
  • Operating equipment and machinery safely and effectively, with a commitment to quality and customer service.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Trade Certificate III in Horticulture/Arboriculture/ Green keeping/Landscaping/Nursery
  • Previous experience in maintenance of parks and gardens (typically 2 years)
  • Plant identification skills
  • Experience operating and maintaining small horticultural machinery (mower, blower, Chainsaw/polesaw)
  • WHS Construction Induction Card (Whitecard)
  • Current Class 1A driver’s licence

DESIRABLE:

  • Chem Cert Certificate (AQF 3) NSW and experience with operating weed spraying equipment
  • Operation of woodchipper
  • MR/HR licence 

SALARY & EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Permanent position, 76 hours per fortnight (RDO 9-day fortnight)
  • This position is a Level D position, salary range is $69,114 p.a. with progression to $74,432 p.a. on demonstrated competencies, with performance progression to $80,956 p.a.
