Fairfield City Council is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team as a Plumber Apprentice! This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is keen to learn the plumbing trade, gain hands-on experience, and contribute to the installation, maintenance, and repair of essential plumbing systems throughout the city.

Role Overview

As a Plumber Apprentice, you will work closely with experienced plumbers to install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems in council buildings, public spaces, and facilities. This apprenticeship will provide you with valuable skills and practical experience that will lay the foundation for a successful career in the plumbing industry.

What You’ll Do

  • Participate actively in their course as scheduled, make satisfactory progress through the course and successfully complete all assessment tasks and other course requirements within allocated timeframes.
  • Assist in the implementation of planned maintenance plumbing work and respond to emergency plumbing repairs to ensure that all plumbing related jobs are completed to required standards and specifications and Sydney Water and AGL regulations.
  • Complete accountable documents (e.g. stores issues, equipment purchases, invoices, work orders, day sheets, daily diary) to ensure that accurate records are kept and delivered to appropriate staff within agreed time constraints.
  • Establish the work site with consideration for site safety and traffic circumstances to ensure the site provides a safe working environment (e.g. Main Earth Neutral System) for employees and passing pedestrian and road traffic.
  • Implement work method statements and risk assessments to ensure that work is carried out in the safest manner possible.
  • Perform plumbing, drainage and gas fitting work to the highest standard to ensure compliance with Sydney Water requirements and relevant Australian standards.
  • Required to participate in emergency situations such as floods or natural disasters.

 

What We’re Looking For

  • You must be at least 15 years or older and ready to begin your career in plumbing.
  • A strong interest in plumbing, with a desire to learn and gain practical skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve plumbing issues.
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently, following plumbing codes and safety regulations.
  • Good physical fitness and stamina, as the job may require heavy lifting and working in confined spaces.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work carefully and precisely.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work as part of a team and interact with clients and colleagues.
  • A positive attitude, reliability, and a willingness to take on new challenges.

About the Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is part of the Certificate III in Plumbing, delivered through a combination of on-the-job training and formal study over a 48-month period. The course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to become a licensed plumber and succeed in the plumbing industry.
