The Mayor’s Summer Holiday Reading Program is a yearly literacy program designed to engage children, with libraries and reading, throughout the summer school holidays. The program runs from 1 December to 31 January each year.
It is a great way to practice or improve reading skills over the holidays meet new friends, learn more about your community, libraries and have fun!
Regular reading over the summer helps children maintain or improve reading skills, and voluntary reading is the key to making reading habitual.
Through the Mayor’s Summer Holiday Program, children choose what material they read through the summer months. This incentive-based program helps kids build their confidence in reading, while having fun and building stronger connections with their public library.
The program is comprised of two age groups:
- Infants to 4 years and
- Children 5 to 13 years.
Children must read, listen or be read to at least 20 book, eBooks, graphic novels, magazines, Vox Books, iVox, LOTE Online for kids or watch StoryBox Library.
