Whitlam Library hours extended
Published on 09 October 2018
I am excited to announce that Council is moving to permanently extend Whitlam Library's opening hours up to midnight on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
A recent trial of the midnight opening hours was a success with the library being well used in the extended hours.
During the extended hours the ground floor remains open. We are doing this to accommodate the community's growing needs to work during the day and study at night.
Residents said they appreciated the extra four hours, especially high school and university students who enjoyed the quiet time for study.
Libraries are important community hubs for people to come together and great places to work and learn. There are free computers and wi-fi access available. You can download or borrow from thousands of books, audiobooks and magazines.
I encourage all residents and library members to take advantage of the extended hours and enjoy what the library offers at a time that suits you.
This is another example of Council reviewing and revolutionising our library services to meet our evolving community's needs.
If you want to use the library between 8pm and midnight on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays you must be a library member aged 16 years and over and have your membership card activated specifically to allow late access. Whitlam Library staff can help you activate your card, which only needs to be done once.
We have completely changed the way our libraries provide services to the community and there are more exciting innovations to come. If you are not already a member, I encourage you to take out library membership which is free and take advantage of all our modern libraries have to offer.
