We're building better libraries

I had the pleasure of officially opening the refurbishments and new café at Whitlam Library in Cabramatta last week.

The $450,000 makeover means we can better meet the needs and expectations of our community and provide a modern and innovative library service.

The Whitlam Library now offers a better, different experience because we've created is a hub where people can come together to spend time, use the latest technology and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

Our libraries are important venues for education and many other services, which is why we're making these changes. They support life-long learning and offer English classes, pre-school story time, school holiday activities, computer classes, free Wi-Fi and computer access and much more.

The opening of the Whitlam Library refurbishment and café continues the trend of success for Council's Open Libraries Program, which has recorded an increase of 22.4% in visitors in the past two years.

If you haven't visited your local library lately, I encourage you to do so.

In other good news, I'm excited to announce that Dami Im is returning to the Cabramatta Moon Festival this year.

Dami was a huge hit at the Moon Festival in 2014 and last year represented Australia at Eurovision, watched by more than 200 million people worldwide.
