Welcome to 2022
Published on 19 January 2022
2022 will be a big year for Council as we build upon the success of important projects delivered in 2021, and focus our efforts on the City’s recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 lockdown.
Council is committed to investing in infrastructure that promotes healthy, active and affordable lifestyles for local families while keeping rates low.
Significant upgrades are coming to our parks; including Bareena Park in Canley Vale, Carrawood Park in Villawood, Endeavour Sports Park in Fairfield West, and Fairfield Heights Park.
The parks will receive state-of-the-art playground facilities for people of all ages and abilities, plus fitness equipment, riding and scooting tracks, barbecues and picnic areas.
Planning is underway to transform Cabravale Leisure Centre into our City’s first health and wellbeing precinct, providing specialist services for seniors, people living with a disability, and people recovering from health conditions.
We have also developed plans for an indoor multicultural and sports centre at Fairfield Showground with construction anticipated to commence this year.
The $30 million development will cater for recreational to competition level sports, as well as events like concerts, exhibitions, conferences and banquets.
We will also continuing our City’s beautification program, planting more trees and shrubs on roundabouts and key locations throughout the City.
This program has been so popular and I receive such positive feedback. It’s a simple but effective way to present the City in a positive light and make us proud to live and work here.
At this time each year we come together as a community to celebrate our City’s diversity on Australia Day. Council will be hosting a number of free family friendly events to celebrate our national day, follow us on social media for what’s on for Australia Day around the City.
Council will also be hosting the annual Fairfield City Australia Day Community Awards, recognising outstanding local citizens who have made significant contributions to our community.
Australia Day is a great time to celebrate this great nation we are lucky to call home, and I look forward to celebrating it with you.
