The world in one place

I am excited to announce that last week Council supported my motion to build an everlasting tribute to our residents that have strong ties across the globe.

The biggest ‘Kugel’ ball in Australia will be built at the entry to Fairfield Showground, the geographical heart of Fairfield City. The 1.8 metre diameter granite ball will be engraved with the world map and placed on a spinning water basin.

A flagpole for one of the largest Australian flags in south western Sydney will be installed, as well as a linkage to the places people in Fairfield have come from. It will also include markers from the centre of the City to various nations across the globe.

Apart from indigenous cultures, we have all come from somewhere else, and we are proud of our diverse community, rich in culture and heritage. Ever since John Williams and his wife moved to Fairfield in 1792 as the first white settlers in the area, people have been coming to Fairfield City from around the country and around the world.

We are first and foremost, proud Australians, but this display will recognise our mums, dads, grandparents and brothers and sisters who left their homes with very little, to come here to seek opportunities in this wonderful nation, make a contribution to the City and make us all proud.
