Supporting innovation at Fairfield Library

In 2015, Council endorsed the Fairfield City Open Libraries program which included a number of initiatives to introduce innovations and modernisation of our libraries.

The program has been a huge success where residents now have access to free Wi-Fi, computer resources and new comfortable space improvements.

I believe that through our libraries, Council could support local business start-ups and entrepreneurs to develop and grow their business ideas.

At the last Council meeting, my fellow Councillors supported my Mayoral Minute asking Council staff to investigate the design for an 'Enterprise Hub' at our Fairfield Library. The ‘Hub' would support community businesses and economic development and be a valuable resource to the community.

I envisage it as a place where talented students, future entrepreneurs and small business owners can come together to share knowledge and experience and together create new ideas.

It would offer our upcoming small businesses hot desks/workstations, Wi-Fi and access to tailored events and co-working partnerships where they can learn from experts and engage with emerging thinkers and doers.

I strongly believe that our libraries create a sense of belonging and the ‘Hub' would provide support for our local business and could be the platform for great business success.

Meanwhile, in another project to improve our library facilities, construction will soon begin for the new Whitlam Library Café.

The Café will be located at the Library's external entrance and will be a great place to sit, enjoy a snack, and take time out while reading a book or newspaper.

Our libraries are an essential local space where members can access information, education and culture. We aim to provide the best, most accessible and useful resources to our community.
