Spotlight on Fairfield Ward

This week's spotlight is on Fairfield Ward.
The ward is in the south-eastern section of our LGA and encompasses the suburbs of Smithfield, Fairfield, Fairfield West, Fairfield East and Fairfield Heights, Yennora, Old Guildford, Villawood, Carramar and Lansvale.
Council has some exciting and innovative projects either under way or planned for Fairfield Ward. As we are doing throughout the entire City, these works include some fantastic investments and infrastructure to meet the needs of our residents now and into the future.
One of my major platforms since becoming Mayor has been to improve car parking throughout the city. Upgrades have already taken place in Fairfield and the next to come online will be a project to build an extra 45 car parking spaces at 24-30 Barbara Street, taking the total number of Council car parking spaces in Barbara Street to 143 and the total in Fairfield City Centre to 860.
Council has allocated $1.8 million for The Crescent Plaza project opposite the Fairfield Station Interchange. The Crescent Plaza, when completed, will contain a number of public art projects, including a timeline wall that will celebrate the indigenous, colonial and multicultural history of Fairfield City through the 'lens' of the Fairfield City Centre.
Children from throughout Fairfield City are now enjoying our fantastic Fairfield Adventure Park. Council invested $1.4 million into this state-of-the-art play area, which provides free recreational activities for children and families. This will soon be complemented by the $8.5 million Youth and Community Centre - a state-of-the-art, 3,000 square metre facility boasting a large hall, indoor multi-sports courts, an outdoor basketball court, trampolines, a rock climbing wall, Wi-Fi access, and versatile rooms to serve many purposes.
To complete what will be a large recreation precinct, a boot camp-style obstacle course and tree top walk will also be built at the Fairfield Adventure Park precinct in Fairfield Park.
Other projects for Fairfield Ward, just to name a few, include streetscape upgrade works in Fairfield City Centre ($1.4 million) and the Villawood Public Domain ($80,000), tree planting in Fairfield Street (between Woodville Road and The Horsley Drive), a $200,000 cycleway expansion on the southern side of Hamilton Road to Fairfield Railway Station, and planning is under way for a $1.8 million expansion of the Fairfield Library.
These are great examples of how Council is working hard to invest in not only the future of those residents in the Fairfield Ward, but also the future of our entire City.
