Recognising Det Supt Peter Lennon

Council recognised the outstanding career and achievements of Fairfield's Detective Superintendent Peter Lennon at last month's Council Meeting.

On 26 July, Supt Lennon will hang up his police cap for the last time as he begins his much deserved retirement after 40 years of exemplary service – nine of those as Commander of the Fairfield Police Area Command.

Council works closely with our local police to ensure residents can go about their daily lives in peace and safety. Supt Lennon has been a very important part of this relationship and has helped lay the foundations for this relationship to continue and grow.

During his career, Supt Lennon worked on some of the most demanding and high profile cases Sydney has seen. In 1990, he helped lead the successful investigation into the murder of Jodie Marie Larcombe and in 1991, the successful investigation into the murder of Dr Victor Chang.

He helped plan security for the Sydney Olympics and the 2007 APEC meetings. He commanded and planned local major sporting events, five USA Senior Officials visits, World Trade Organisation meetings and Rugby World Cup matches.

In 2007 he was awarded the Australian Police Medal in the Australia Day Honours List for distinguished service.

In 2012 while Commander at Fairfield, he pioneered the state's first Coffee with a Cop meetings, where police and locals can meet and talk over a cup of coffee. This idea has gone on to be adopted right across the state.

Supt Lennon is renowned for his dedication to duty, policing knowledge and experience, reliability, self-motivation and a high standard of ethics.

At last month's Council meeting, we recognised Supt Lennon on behalf of the community and congratulated him on his remarkable career. We wish him all the best for his retirement.
