Providing for our City's future

Council has a great history of providing for the community, but we're not resting on our laurels.
To provide and plan for jobs creation, better safety in our school zones and elsewhere, and infrastructure, a new Community and Infrastructure Priorities Program has been established that will use revenue generated from our car parking fees.
At a recent Council meeting I proposed the Community and Infrastructure Priorities Program and Infrastructure and Car Parks Reserve be established.
This new $1 million program of works in the 2016-17 Operational Plan will address many of the community's top 10 priorities, as identified in the Fairfield City Plan, including community safety, a clean and attractive City, better health services and more activities for our youth.
The Community and Infrastructure Priorities Program will comprise:
- School zone safety initiatives - $175,000
- Town centre upgrades - $175,000
- Lighting/CCTV upgrades in parks and defibrillators for sporting fields - $150,000
- Intersection beautification - $100,000
- Youth mentoring - $50,000
- Tourism and marketing/jobs creation - $50,000
- Top-up for specific projects or matching funds for State/Federal grants or to fast track projects such as lifts at rail stations - $300,000
This additional investment will significantly improve infrastructure across the City now and into the future.
The funds to pay for this initiative will come from a new Infrastructure and Car Parks Reserve, which will be income derived from Council's multi-storey car parks. All of the existing car park reserves will be amalgamated. This new Reserve will ensure that funds collected from multistorey car parks across the City are set aside to maintain or expand infrastructure provided across all suburbs of our City.
Council has completed many new major projects for the community in the past three years. The new projects I have proposed will further improve the City's infrastructure, amenity and safety.
