New Fairfield Library opening

This Saturday we are opening our brand new Fairfield Library to the public, with more space, better facilities and more programs to enjoy.

The new library at 1-3 Hamilton Road is a big improvement over our previous library at Kenyon Street, which has served the community well for more than 40 years. Over this time, the needs of the community have evolved, and our libraries are evolving with them.

The new library is more than just a place for books.Council has worked hard to create a place that will be a hub of community life in our busy Fairfield City Centre.

Besides more space and more desks, bookshelves and books, there is new comfortable seating and furniture, as well as plenty of quiet spaces to read and study. There are also spaces for residents to have a cup of coffee and chat together.

There is a games room with the latest technology, a meeting room with a whiteboard wall and a soundproof central meeting space for larger gatherings.

There is a large children’s area, the first for Fairfield Library, with children’s books, play areas and a Lego wall.

And we have kept all the online facilities, computers and WiFi access while adding docking stations to charge your phones and tablets.

You will also be able to grab a coffee and a bite to eat at the on-site modern café once a provider has been chosen.

At 1000 sqm, the new Fairfield Library is almost double the size of the previous Fairfield Library. This can be expanded further to meet future demand because there is another 1000 sqm available on the floor above.

Council invested $6 million on the library - $3 million to acquire the building and $3 million to refit the space. Council is converting the previous Fairfield Library site at Kenyon Street into a new Community Business Hub, which will open later this year.

Council continues to invest in our community and into infrastructure. It’s important we do this to continue to improve the facilities and quality of life for our residents.
