During my time as Mayor, creating extra car parking throughout our City has been a priority.
Since I came to office, more than 1000 extra car parking spaces have been established throughout our City at locations such as Canley Vale, Canley Heights, Cabramatta and Fairfield City Centre.
Council is now about to start work on 100 extra car parking spaces in Prairiewood.
In mid-July, construction will start on developing an additional 34 parking spaces along Rickard Road, near Prairiewood Leisure Centre.
An extra 66 car parking spaces will then be constructed along Christie Street. These spaces will be within walking distance of the T-way, Fairfield and Braeside hospitals and surrounding community facilities. This work will start in late August.
Construction will also soon start on 39 car parking spaces along The Crescent, in Fairfield City Centre. Council will build the 39 angle parking spaces on the eastern side of The Crescent, between Hamilton Road and Ware Street.
These parking spaces are in addition to 45 created in the new car park on Barbara Street.
A new 36-space car park on Wilson Road, Bonnyrigg Heights, was opened two weeks ago. The car park in Wilson Road Reserve includes two spaces for people with disabilities and will accommodate the expected increase in demand for parking associated with people using the park.
This car park, and a new roundabout at the intersection of Gloucester Street, will alleviate some of the traffic stresses experienced within the school zone during school peak times.
Cabramatta shoppers and businesses have welcomed the extra 275 car parking spaces Council recently opened at the new Dutton Lane Car Park. This facility has increased the overall parking in the Dutton Lane precinct to 880 spaces, and overall parking in the Cabramatta Town Centre to 3,293.
