We have among us compassionate and talented individuals who help others, improve the environment and succeed in academic goals, the arts and sport. It's what makes Fairfield so wonderful.

That's why Council has made available a number of scholarship and donation funds to help local residents chase their dreams and make a difference to Fairfield.

The Mayoral Scholarship Fund provides financial support for academic, artistic, sporting or special needs to achieve ambitions and contribute to the local community. These funds help individuals achieve their full potential. I'm proud to say that Council's various donation funds have helped about 39 local individuals and groups from a wide range of areas with more than $30,000 in donations in the past year alone.

These donations can be the difference in getting our young people over the line for sports uniforms and travel needs and keep them focused on their goals.

In just the last two months the Mayoral Scholarship Fund has provided funding for:

  • Elisabeth Kidane to compete at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships in Portugal - $1000
  • Soccer player Noor Hanteia to compete at the FIFA Football for Hope Festival in Russia - $1000
  • Netballers Lindsay and Jacinta Tui - $500 each
  • Petra Perlitz to attend the Humanitarian Affairs Leadership Symposium at the United Nations in Bangkok - $1000

Information about criteria and how to apply are on the Council's website. Visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/grants or call 9725 0226 for more information.
