Lunar New Year finale
Published on 28 February 2018
The countdown is on to the Cabramatta Lunar New Year event at Freedom Plaza this weekend. The two days of celebration on 03 and 04 March mark the end of three weeks of celebrations across Fairfield City.
There have been many community organised Lunar New Year events and celebrations across the City, with colour, ceremony, firecrackers, feasting and lion dancing all creating a buzz of excitement. As Mayor, I take great pride in our cultural diversity and all it has to offer both locals and visitors.
The Cabramatta event this weekend will no doubt draw visitors from across Sydney. Many families will come to taste the food and experience the fun and cultural feast that makes Cabramatta and Fairfield City great.
The food competitions, the children's chopsticks challenge and the single-handed prawn peeling, are always a hit. As this year is the Year of the Dog, we're excited to have Nick Jr.'s PAW Patrol headlining the children's entertainment, with shows at 12noon and 2pm and a meet and greet at 1pm both days.
The lion dancing is always a favourite, and the dynamic martial arts demonstrations are sure to thrill the whole family.
I'm looking forward to attending the official ceremony at 11am on Saturday 03 March, and the traditional blessing of the Cabramatta community at 10am on Sunday.
Council is committed to continuing to bring quality entertainment and events to our City for our whole community to enjoy.
