Lunar New Year family fun
Published on 07 February 2018
Families are in for a treat at this year's Cabramatta Lunar New Year, with Nick Jr.'s PAW Patrol headlining the Year of the Dog event program.
It'll be all paws on deck, with a fantastic family-friendly entertainment line-up and plenty of colour and activities for both children and adults.
Nick Jr.'s PAW Patrol will perform at 12pm and 2pm both days, with the children's chopstick challenge sure to be a hit at 2.30pm. There'll be the ever-popular face painting, carnival games, and firecrackers at the Pailau gates at 11.30am at Freedom Plaza.
Children can learn to make origami flowers for the traditional Mai tree, a symbol of prosperity and well-being for the family for New Year in South Vietnam.
Lion dancing and martial arts demonstrations are sure to be popular, as will the single-handed prawn peeling competition. I'm looking forward to attending the official ceremony at 11am on Saturday 3 March, and the traditional blessing of the Cabramatta community at 10am on Sunday.
We're anticipating significant crowds from across Sydney again this year, with many families taking advantage of this colourful festival to taste the food and experience the fun and cultural feast that makes Cabramatta and Fairfield City great.
Community events like Cabramatta Lunar New Year are a terrific opportunity to highlight the best of Fairfield City. Families can try traditional New Year foods at the many restaurants, grocers and specialty stores waiting to be discovered in not only Cabramatta, but also Canley Vale and Canley Heights.
Council is committed to continuing to bring quality entertainment and events to our City for our whole community to enjoy.
