Small businesses are the lifeblood of our local economy. With more than 15,000 small businesses in our City employing thousands of residents and providing services for our community, it’s in all our best interests to see them succeed.

Later this month, Council is hosting the Fairfield Food Forum – South West Sydney’s newest business-to-business networking event helping large and small business owners, start-ups and entrepreneurs in the food and beverage sector take their business to the next level.

The Forum will offer businesses the opportunity to build connections, gain exposure, and widen their target audience, showcasing established speakers who will cover topics like exporting, trademarks, waste and recycling which can help businesses achieve meaningful and sustainable growth. Start-ups can take advantage of the resources available from government initiatives, businesses, and exhibitors to help launch a successful venture. More information can be found by visiting the Food Forum page on Council’s website.

Another way that Council supports the local economy is through Fairfield City HQ (FCHQ), one of our newest facilities giving businesses access to affordable office space and resources. Ideally located in Fairfield’s business district, FCHQ supports businesses that can’t afford expensive office overheads, and provides opportunities for businesses to collaborate and learn from each other. Casual hot desk hire starts from $16.50 per day. Visit fairfieldcityhq.nsw.gov.au for details.

This month will also see the return of the Fairfield Local Business Awards which spotlight the outstanding businesses providing quality products or services in the local area. Council has been a major sponsor for many years and I’m really looking forward to meeting the new nominees that are raising the bar in their industries.

The next time you’re out shopping, remember to support local. Small business is the very fabric of our community and it’s important that we support them now more than ever. We all know that power prices, mortgages, rent, and food prices are increasing for everyone, let’s get behind small business by supporting local and keeping our economy and local jobs moving forward.
