While the world as we know it is changing, it’s important that we ensure we keep our minds and bodies active.
Recent government actions to try and curb the spread of Coronavirus have meant that we have had to close all of our outdoor gyms, playgrounds and skate parks. This is in addition to other closures we have had to make in the past few weeks.
Going for a walk or bike ride along our bike paths and walking tracks is a good chance to keep up your exercise and clear your mind. But it is most important that you follow social distancing and new gathering rules. That means, no more than two people in a group (unless you are from the same household) and that you stay more than 1.5m away from each other and from other people you might come across on the pathway.
It’s also important for us to stay connected and mentally active. Now is the time to take advantage of the Library’s huge online offering – with online books, newspapers, magazines, online courses and even movies – all for free. We can look out for our elderly neighbours to make sure they have what they need, and we can support our local businesses by getting a takeaway or home-delivered meal, or shop online.
While Council’s priority is working to stop the spread of COVID-19 in our community, we are still forging ahead with our annual program of City maintenance and improvements. This includes road upgrades, public building upgrades and maintenance, stormwater upgrades, new and upgraded footpaths, pedestrian and road safety and playground and sporting fields upgrades.
We are also pressing forward with major projects, including a wave pool at Aquatopia, a new multilevel car park at Cabramatta, business and community hub at Fairfield, further improvements at Fairfield Showground and much more.
Not only do these projects improve Fairfield City as a great place to live, work and raise a family, they also provide valuable construction jobs and support employment growth in our City.
I would like to thank the community for so quickly changing their behaviours to make a difference to the spread of this virus. We have literally been told to change the way we live our lives, how we work, learn and how we socialise.
