Council's inaugural Illuminate event on New Year's Eve was a great success as tens of thousands of residents looked to the sky to witness one of the biggest fireworks displays in South West Sydney.

I announced this initiative 12 months ago in partnership with 10 of our City's community clubs - St Johns Park Bowling Club, Mount Pritchard and District Community Club, Cabramatta Rugby Leagues Club, Fairfield RSL, Smithfield RSL, Club Marconi, Cabramatta Bowling Club, Cabra-Vale Diggers Club, Canley Heights RSL & Sporting Club, and Triglav Mounties.

I would like to congratulate all those who were involved in organising the event, which has received lots of positive feedback on social media channels, direct contact with the Council and, I'm sure, with the host clubs.

Council allocated 3,000 tickets for the free Illuminate site at Calmsley Hill City Farm. Families were asked to make a gold coin donation at the City Farm gate and those proceeds will be given to a worthwhile charity in Fairfield City.

This event was the first of its kind in South West Sydney and I am proud to say its huge success brought the community together in one celebration across our City. Its aim was to bring a family celebration to our own back yards so families would not have to travel elsewhere for a night out on New Year's Eve.

Council's evening at Calmsley Hill City Farm was full of colour, with lights and entertainment such as amusement rides, children's craft activities, roaming performers and food stalls. Families enjoyed all the activities the farm is renowned for, such as the animal exhibits and whip cracking demonstrations.

For those who missed the festivities at the City Farm, you can visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw.gov.au/illuminate to see a gallery of photos from the night. There is also a photo gallery on our Facebook page.
