I am pleased to announce that Council is again offering residents one free voucher to dispose of green waste in your next rates notice, which has begun arriving in letterboxes this week, and can be used at any time throughout the next year.

This is your opportunity to do an organic spring clean around your yard by trimming your tree branches and getting your garden beds looking great for the spring season.

It’s also a great reminder for everyone to get outdoors and do some gardening to help our City look its best.

In the past year close to 900 households used Council’s voucher for a free one-time green waste disposal at Council’s Recycling Drop off Centre in Smithfield.

Given its popularity, Council is happy to offer residents this free one-off service once more.

We want to help you dispose of your garden waste items correctly by taking your green waste to the Recycling Drop Off Centre which include:

  • Grass clippings
  • Garden prunings
  • Thorny material such as rose bushes
  • Succulents
  • Palms

Council will also hold its annual free e-waste and chemical recycling drop off day on Sunday 20 August at Fairfield Showground. Just in time for some spring cleaning, you’ll be able to throw away your old kitchen appliances, televisions, computers, batteries and more.
