Back to school safety
Published on 31 January 2018
Many children are back at school this week and this will no doubt mean more traffic on our roads.
To help ensure our children stay safe, drivers are reminded to please slow down around school zones and near school buses.
Remember that school zones are 40km/h and are in place to protect our children on their way to and from school.
Council installed speed radar display signs last year on local streets that are located adjacent to schools to improve road safety. The speed radar display signs alert drivers with responsive messages.
More recently, Council installed speed radar display signs around school zones on Meadows Road, Mount Pritchard and Walworth Road, Horsley Park.
Council will be installing more mobile speed radar display signs and looking at ways to improve road safety around school zones, including providing more footpaths and crossings.
Council will continue to tackle hotspots and address speeding concerns that are raised by the community.
We all need to take care on the road and slow down. I wish all our school aged children and their families a happy, safe and positive start to the 2018 school year.
