An award-winning city

Council always aims to deliver the best infrastructure, facilities and services for the community. Being recognised with awards and accolades are a welcome bonus for our efforts. Last week we were recognised at both the 2022 AILA Landscape Architecture Awards, and 2022 ZEST Awards.
Fairfield Showground’s Deerbush Park all-abilities playground took out the prestigious 2022 AILA NSW Landscape Architecture Award for Play Spaces, with judges citing the project as delivering a rich journey of active experiences blending well with the natural environment and creating a ‘Place for Everyone’.
Deerbush Park is a significant part of Council’s commitment to being an inclusive, family-centred City, ensuring Fairfield Showground has something for everyone to enjoy, no matter their ability. The $6.4 million playground was officially opened on 13 June last year and was jointly funded by Fairfield City Council, and the Australian and State governments through the Western Sydney City Deal.
In the same week, Council in collaboration with Parks Community Network, Community First Step, Core Community Services and Woodville Alliance won the ‘Exceptional Community Partnership’ category at the 2022 ZEST Awards for the Fairfield Food Hub Partnership project.
The Fairfield Food Hub Partnership saw the coordination and distribution of meals and food hampers to residents either in isolation or experiencing hardship during lockdown. Council contributed more than 100 redeployed staff to cook food and manage the organisation and distribution of food and donations from the temporary hub set up at Prairiewood Leisure Centre.
Achieving in these industry awards is testament to the innovation, expertise and hard work of Council and its partners, and I’d like to thank the teams involved for delivering an exceptional level of service and projects to the local community last year despite the challenges of COVID-19.
