Advocating for our residents

Council continues to put forward your voice to the federal and state governments to ensure we receive as much funding as possible to support and extend our works program.

Council over a long period of time has advocated for the installation of a lift at Canley Vale railway station. Council was even prepared to contribute to the project to make it happen. I am very happy to report that the state government has now set aside $2.4 million in the Budget to build the lifts. The state government will also spend $100,000 on new bike racks at Fairfield Station.

But more needs to be done. We can't forget that Villawood and Carramar stations still need lifts and we will continue fighting to make sure this happens.

Council is also pleased that through its strong advocacy the state government has allocated $30.5 million to upgrade The Horsley Drive between Wallgrove and Cowpasture roads. We are also working with the state and federal governments to upgrade Smithfield Road.

We continue to advocate for train stations for Prairiewood and Smithfield in a proposed rail link running from Parramatta to the new Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis. Such a link would give residents better access to education and employment opportunities, as well as drive investment in local business, our hospital and local education.

Council will keep pushing for upgrades to our local hospital, our schools and TAFE and work with the federal government towards delivering the M12 motorway.
