I am very excited to announce that a beautiful new community park will be built for the residents of Villawood and Carramar.

Council will create the park at the corner of Karella Avenue and Koonoona Avenue, Villawood. We will transform six residential blocks into 3200 sqm of green space for families.

Council identified the need for more open space in the area to meet the growing needs of our City. Open space is important in ensuring we have a healthy, active community and I am pleased that we are able to deliver additional open space for the residents of Villawood and Carramar.

I love seeing families coming together to kick a ball around, ride bikes or relax with a book in the shade. Parks are central to our health and happiness and this park will be the perfect place for families and friends, young and old, to rest and play.

A concept for the new park has been developed and we want to hear from residents of Villawood and Carramar about want you would like to see in their new park. We will be asking residents, families from nearby Carramar Public School and child care centres, and local community organisations for their feedback so we can make sure the park meets your needs.

The new park could include circuit paths, kick-around space, seating, natural shade, play equipment and fitness equipment.

Work should begin later this year on delivering this wonderful new park to the community, further highlighting Fairfield City as a great place to live and raise a healthy and happy family.

Reconciliation Week

This week is Reconciliation Week, which began on 27 May with the anniversary of the 1967 referendum and concludes on 3 June with Mabo Day.

Our Australian Indigenous heritage is precious and I urge everyone to deepen their understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and history and further the reconciliation journey.
