Council has been rolling out more than $1.1 million of major works to enhance the look of The Boulevarde in Fairfield Heights town centre.
Stage 3 of the works, on the eastern side of The Boulevarde between Beemera and Karabar streets, will start in the next few weeks. The result will be a more updated and attractive area for local businesses, residents and visitors.
The upgrade will include:
- Replacement of the old concrete footpath. The new pavement design will replicate what has been used on the western side of The Boulevarde;
- New street furniture;
- Upgrade to entry and exits to pedestrian crossings;
- Replacement of old kerb and guttering that is no longer safe or that has deteriorated;
- The reinstatement of street signage and other key safety or direction signage, and
- Replacement of trees to more suitable varieties to provide additional shade over footpaths.
These works will improve pedestrian safety and provide easier access for shoppers. They will also create a more satisfying and attractive precinct for residents, shoppers and businesses and continue Council's commitment to make Fairfield City a great place to live.
New street trees will make visits more comfortable in the warmer months by providing additional shade over footpath spaces.
Work should take between eight and 10 weeks to complete. Pedestrian access will be maintained to shopfronts during shopping hours where it is practical and safe.
These works are part of the many exciting changes and upgrades to our town centres that will modernise our City and improve our public spaces.
