Lion Dancing & Firecrackers during Lunar New Year

Lions and string firecrackers re-open the shops and restaurants to banish evil from the old and bring in good luck and fortune for the New Year.

You will see businesses decorated in red with lanterns, ornaments, and flowers such as marigolds. 

Lion dancing and string fireworks are held from Wednesday 29 January 2024, the start of Lunar New Year. 

Businesses wishing to arrange lion dancing and string fireworks will need approval from Council. 

String fireworks in Dutton Plaza are restricted to Saturday 8 & Sunday 9 February 2024. 

The restrictions are in place to help with the control of fire systems which are activated by smoke. 

Lion dancing is welcome throughout the Lunar New Year period.
