About the program

Fairfield City Council runs an annual school garden competition that acknowledges schools for their commitment and passion in cultivating and maintaining beautiful gardens.

The winners are judged on a number of categories, such as design and layout, planting management, creativity, functionality, recycling functions and student involvement.

Prizes

The winner will be awarded a $1,000 cheque, a school banner, and a trophy, the runner-up will receive $500, and each finalists will receive $100. Additionally, all winners will receive a framed certificate of appreciation and a potted plant presented by the Mayor.

 

2024 Annual School Garden Awards

The winning school of 2024 was Bonnyrigg Public School. Bonnyrigg Public School featured an impressive agricultural program with sustainable produce, composting, extensive vegetable gardens, a chicken coop, ducks, alpacas, and a duck pond.

We would also like to congratulate the 2024 Fabulous Fairfield School of the Year finalists from Bossley Park Public School and Les Powell School, both receiving our runner-up prize.

2023 Annual School Garden Awards

Council runs a School Garden Competition which awards schools who maintain striking gardens. The grand prize is a cheque to the amount of $1,000 and a school banner. Finalists receive a $100 gift card to contribute to their garden maintenance, a framed certificate of appreciation and a potted plant.
