Annual permits for non-desexed cats and dangerous/restricted dogs

The NSW Government has introduced annual permits for non-desexed cats and restricted and dangerous dogs.

From 1 July 2020, owners of non-desexed cats older than 4 months are required to pay an annual permit in addition to the one-off lifetime pet registration fee. Desex your cat now and avoid ever having to pay this fee. Cats desexed prior to 1.7.2020 are not required to have an annual permit and will not be flagged or appear on CAR Annual Permit Report

Owners of a restricted breed or formally declared to be dangerous dog will also be required to pay an annual permit in addition to their one-off lifetime pet registration fee.

There is also a late fee of $22 if a registration fee is not paid 28 days after the date on which the animal is required to be registered - applicable for cats and restricted and dangerous dogs requiring permits.

Permit Type Permit Description Permit Fee Permit Fee (including Late Fee of $22)
Undesexed Cat Not desexed by 4 months $96 $118
Dangerous Dog Dog declared dangerous $230 $252
Restricted Dog Dog declared to be restricted breed or restricted by birth $230 $252
