Fairfield City Council has cancelled its Culinary Carnival food festival scheduled to be held in Fairfield City Centre on Saturday, 30 May.

The cancellation is in line with directives from NSW and federal governments against public gatherings, and as part of Fairfield City Council's ongoing efforts to protect the community's health and wellbeing.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said he understood people will be disappointed but it is important to focus on doing the right thing so that we can beat the Coronavirus pandemic.

"While we were looking forward to a reason to celebrate our City's amazing food and entertainment, the health and wellbeing of our community and visitors is more important," Mayor Carbone said.

"As a community we have worked hard to follow the rules of social distancing, staying at home and exercising increased hand hygiene. I want to congratulate the community for this hard work and for keeping numbers of Coronavirus cases in our area down.

"I look forward to a time when we can all come together again to celebrate together and enjoy everything we love about our City.

"Council continues to review all of its events and services, and align them with the advice and directives of the NSW and federal governments and NSW Health.

"We will keep the community updated on further changes to Council's events and services and we thank everyone for their understanding during this challenging time."
