Closure of libraries and Fairfield City Museum & Gallery
Published on 25 March 2020
As part of Fairfield City Council’s ongoing efforts to protect the community’s health and wellbeing, the City’s libraries and Fairfield City Museum & Gallery are now closed.
Council looked into maintaining and even expanding the Home Library Service. However, this has proved challenging and at this stage the decision to close the libraries also includes the Home Library Service.
If you have a book and cannot return it, you will not be charged any late fees.
The community can still access many of Fairfield City Open Libraries’ services online.
Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone said Council has acted to protect the health and wellbeing of residents.
“I know that this will be disappointing to many residents, but we are putting the health and safety of our community first,” Mayor Carbone said.
“As a Council we want to provide opportunities for the community to stay connected, engaged and healthy. It is important that in this difficult time that we continue to take care of ourselves and participate in activities that exercise the mind and body.
“Council has worked hard in recent years to greatly expand and improve the digital offerings available from our libraries, meaning there are plenty of things you can access and enjoy from the comfort of your own home.
“Library membership is completely free for Fairfield City residents, and you can join online.”
Library members can access ebooks including bestsellers, e-magazines and e-newspapers from nearly every country, stream thousands of movies and documentaries, play games, learn a language, or learn something with online workshop programs and thousands of tutorials in nearly every subject.
The digital collections are available 24/7. You can borrow and download up to 30 books for 3 weeks, unlimited e-newspapers, e-magazines and e-comics, and watch up to 10 movies a month, all for free.
